Character

Siro appeared in 2017 as an early example of the virtual YouTuber format, before the term became common. Appland’s press release of June 28, 2017 introduced her as a digital-persona YouTuber who admires idols and aims to try the things real-world idols do, but in the virtual world, while also taking on newer areas such as VR and game streaming. Her first content was a dance video made with the dance site Dance Stream and a Twitter post using a meme that was trending at the time.

Her YouTube channel today describes her as a virtual YouTuber who streams daily, focuses on game commentary and aspires to be a Japanese idol. According to Pixiv Encyclopedia, she is known for a dolphin-like laugh, an interest in food (she often adds the word “cyber” to food names), and fluency in foreign languages, especially English. These are fan-compiled details, so treat them as description rather than official settings.

What the content looks like

The channel centers on game commentary and daily streams, with music and event content layered on top. Appland’s early press materials described daily challenge videos from a virtual space, and a December 2017 release said her livestreams used Appland’s VR LIVE service, in which viewers interact with 3D characters in a virtual space. Her channel page also lists subtitled playlists in Chinese, English, Korean, Russian and Spanish, which is useful for overseas viewers.

Milestones

  • June 28, 2017: Appland announces Siro’s YouTube channel and Twitter account.
  • December 2017: a company release reports that the channel passed 100,000 subscribers, an increase of more than eightfold, and 2.5 million views in a week from a December 21 broadcast.
  • August 31, 2018: Siro and fellow Appland character Baacharu appear in the mobile shooter Modern Combat Versus, in both the Japanese and overseas versions. Appland described this as her debut abroad.
  • August 2019: three original songs (“Tatake Tatake Te Tatake,” “46” and “Mata Ashita”) go on sale on August 31, 2019, after being performed at her birthday festival at Toyosu PIT on August 24.
  • Television: she is a long-running regular on TV Asahi’s variety show Gariben Girl V, which VTuber NewsDrop described as a mainstay role in 2023. Pixiv Encyclopedia dates her regular status to January 2019, and also lists an appearance on NHK’s NHK Virtual Nodojiman on January 2, 2019.
  • August 2023: Appland’s release for the sixth birthday festival put her YouTube channel at about 660,000 subscribers and her Twitter account at about 290,000 followers.

Birthday festivals

Siro’s birthday festival has become an annual event. The sixth edition took place on Saturday, August 12, 2023 as a ticketed online event, with the opening segment streamed free on YouTube. The seventh, “A Night’s Dream,” was held on August 12, 2024 at harevutai in Ikebukuro, Tokyo, with an afternoon show and an evening music live. According to a report on the seventh festival, Siro told fans she would keep working hard and asked them to stay by her side.

2026 activity

  • *ASTERISK revival (December 12, 2026): Siro is billed in Show 1 of Appland’s *ASTERISK live in Virtual Sanrio Puroland, a revival of an event she also took part in during 2020. See our report on the *ASTERISK announcement.
  • Birthday goods: for her birthday on August 12, 2025, Appland sold a set of voice dramas on its official shop, priced at 1,000 yen (standard), 1,500 yen (binaural) and 5,500 yen (complete set).

Where to start

The fastest way to see her style is a birthday festival digest, such as the one above. For her day-to-day streams, open the main channel and look at the game commentary; the subtitled playlists are the easiest entry point if you do not read Japanese.
