Status as of October 28, 2026. Based on Appland’s official site and press releases and the reports listed in Sources.

At a glance

  • Company: Appland, Inc. (株式会社アップランド), based in Setagaya, Tokyo; capital of 10 million yen; representative director and president Naoya Murata, per the company page.
  • Best-known properties: the VTuber production .LIVE (read “dot live”) and the character Denno Shoujo Siro, one of the early virtual YouTubers that Appland developed.
  • Ownership: since April 2023, a majority of shares are held by MBS Innovation Drive, part of the MBS Media Holdings broadcasting group.
  • Founded: 2017, according to VTuber NewsDrop. The company page does not give a founding date.
  • What it does: develops VTuber characters and IP, runs .LIVE and its talents, plans online and in-person events, handles corporate tie-ups and goods sales, and works in virtual talent and Web3-related projects.

History and ownership

Appland describes itself as a company that develops VTuber character IP and runs the .LIVE agency. Its flagship character, Denno Shoujo Siro, is an early virtual YouTuber character in the Japanese scene, and Siro became a regular on TV Asahi’s variety show Gariben Girl V, which VTuber NewsDrop cited in 2023 as an example of broadcasters moving into VTubing. That TV link is one reason the company’s later ownership is notable.

On April 14, 2023, MBS Innovation Drive, a group company of MBS Media Holdings (which owns Mainichi Broadcasting’s television and radio businesses), announced that it had acquired a majority of Appland’s shares, making Appland a subsidiary. The stated aim was to expand MBS’s content business and reach new fan groups, and to develop content with other MBS group companies. Appland’s recent announcements still mention its status as part of the MBS Group, and a September 2026 report on its new TV-style programs says the group’s television resources inform the new variety show.

Structure: .LIVE, ぶいぱい and talents

The official talents page currently lists 29 talents with their YouTube and X accounts. Appland does not label the groups on that page, so the following grouping comes from company announcements. The first generation of .LIVE consists of five members: Karen Kyoin Chieri, Suzu Kagura, Carlo Pino, Momoda Mememe and Yamato Iori. A May 27, 2026 release announced a Blu-ray BOX of their first solo lives, with each live carrying its own title (such as “Märchen Chierick Castle” for Chieri and “Mushroom Shangri-La” for Iori). Company releases also name a second group, ぶいぱい (Buipai), and the *ASTERISK report says that event’s lineup draws on .LIVE and ぶいぱい, but the official talent list does not show which talent belongs to which group.

Siro herself, Baachan-ru (Baacharu) and several newer members appear on the same official list. Because the page does not give debut dates, this profile does not list them individually.

What Appland is doing in 2026

  • Solo-live Blu-ray BOX and anniversary goods (May 27, 2026): a 45,000-yen Blu-ray BOX of the first-generation members’ first solo lives, plus 8th-anniversary merchandise in the same release. Sales ran through June 16, 2026 on the company’s official shop, with shipping expected from early August to early October.
  • wearverse (VRChat outfits): Appland runs the apparel brand wearverse for VRChat avatars; a new outfit, “Command Military,” went on sale on BOOTH on May 29, 2026 at 3,000 to 6,000 yen, with support for nine avatars at launch.
  • Regular TV-style shows (autumn 2026): on September 16, 2026 the company announced two regular programs on the .LIVE YouTube channel. Appland News starts September 25 and airs on the fourth Friday of each month with news about the company, its talents, events and goods. Appland TV, a variety series with studio segments, location shoots and collaborations, starts October 9.
  • *ASTERISK revival (December 12, 2026): Appland is organizing a two-show VTuber music live in the VRChat world Virtual Sanrio Puroland, a revival of the 2020 online event of the same name, with ten VTubers. Ticket prices have not been announced yet.

Why overseas readers might care

Appland is not an English-language agency, and the sources we reviewed do not describe an English-speaking branch. Its relevance for international fans is mostly practical: its streams and events are in Japanese, its goods are sold through its own shop and BOOTH, and its events increasingly use VRChat and online ticketing, which are accessible from abroad when the organizers allow it. The *ASTERISK event, for example, offers both a VRChat ticket and an online streaming ticket, according to Japanese outlets. We have not found a statement on overseas shipping for the company shop, so check the shop terms before ordering.

What to watch next

  • Ticket prices and sale dates for the December 12 *ASTERISK event, which Appland says will be announced on its official X account and the event website.
  • Whether Appland TV and Appland News add any subtitles or English-language information.
  • Further wearverse releases for VRChat.
