Sony Announces ELF-MN1 Glasses-Free 3D Display for Avatars, Due December 11

Comments Off on Sony Announces ELF-MN1 Glasses-Free 3D Display for Avatars, Due December 11

Sony announced the ELF-MN1 on October 28, 2026, a compact display that shows 3D avatars, characters and scanned objects without the need for glasses. It is hardware for Sony’s XYN spatial content solution, and it goes on sale on December 11, 2026. The price is open, and MoguLive gives an unofficial estimate of about 54,000 yen including tax. Neither MoguLive nor the sources we reviewed link the product to VTubers directly.

At a glance

  • Product: ELF-MN1 spatial reality display (Sony, part of the XYN lineup)
  • Announced: October 28, 2026
  • Release: December 11, 2026
  • Price: open price; an unofficial estimate of about 54,000 yen including tax
  • Screen: 6 inches, 403 ppi, glasses-free 3D with two-viewpoint rendering
  • Connection: one USB-C cable; Windows PCs and iOS and Android smartphones
  • Demo units: planned at Sony Store Ginza and Sony Store Nagoya, dates not given

What was announced

The ELF-MN1 has a 6-inch screen at 403 ppi, which Sony describes as the highest pixel density among its spatial reality displays. It uses a two-viewpoint method and is designed to reduce blur and double images. An infrared sensor has been added to the existing gaze sensor, so the display keeps tracking the viewer’s eye position even in a dark room. The 3D image updates in real time to match the viewer’s gaze.

An acrylic stand makes the boundary between the screen and the desk less noticeable. The unit connects with a single USB-C cable. The product table says the cable must support DisplayPort Alternate Mode, and the phone can charge while connected. After the companion app is launched, viewing starts without a complicated initial setup.

Intended use

The article names avatars and characters as display targets, together with objects created through XYN’s spatial capture. The supported service listed is Holo Model, a digital figure service from Gugenka. Developers can make original content with an SDK. This puts the display in the same field as VTuber goods and 3D models of virtual characters, although the article does not describe any VTuber-specific features or partnerships.

Background

Sony has sold spatial reality displays for several years. They use eye tracking to change the picture according to the viewer’s position, which produces a 3D effect on a flat panel. The ELF-MN1 is described as a small model, and the article reports that it works with phones as well as PCs.

What it means for overseas viewers

All the details we found come from a Japanese announcement. The price is open, the release date given is for Japan, and nothing is stated about sales in other regions. Holo Model, the service named, is a Japanese digital figure service. Overseas VTuber fans who collect 3D figures or merchandise should regard this as a possible future way to view 3D character models, not a product that is currently tied to any VTuber agency.

A glasses-free 3D display differs from the VR headsets and smart glasses used in VRChat and similar spaces. It shows content on a desk, and it does not place the viewer in a virtual world.

What we don’t know yet

  • The official price and where the product will be sold outside Japan
  • Which VTuber or character content will be available for it
  • The dates of the demonstrations at Sony Store Ginza and Sony Store Nagoya
  • How well the display works with the model formats that VTubers commonly use
