Kanae x AVIS Rent a Car: Up to 40% Off Rentals for Japan Road Trips

IDEX Auto Japan, the Fukuoka-based company that runs the AVIS Rent a Car brand in Japan, announced on November 2, 2026 a collaboration with Kanae of NIJISANJI. The tie-up comes with a sponsored livestream on Kanae’s YouTube channel, three suggested road trips in Kyushu, Hokkaido and Okinawa, and a booking campaign called #AVISで叶えよう (the English campaign page calls it “#MakeItHappenWithAVIS!”) with rental discounts of up to 40%.

Most VTuber brand collaborations sell something you can order from home. This one is different: it is only useful if you are actually driving in Japan. That makes it worth a closer look for overseas fans who are planning a trip, so below we cover what was announced, how the discount works, which locations are included, and the licence rules that decide whether a visitor can rent a car at all.

At a glance

  • Who: AVIS Rent a Car Japan (operated by IDEX Auto Japan Co., Ltd., the AVIS master licensee in Japan) and NIJISANJI liver Kanae (ANYCOLOR Inc.).
  • Livestream: November 3, 2026, 21:00 JST on Kanae Channel. The archive is about 62 minutes long and had passed 88,000 views by November 5.
  • Booking window: November 3, 21:00 JST to December 3, 2026, 23:59 JST.
  • Rental dates covered: pick-ups from November 4, 2026 to June 30, 2027.
  • Discount: up to 40% off at listed locations, 30% off at other locations. The campaign prices are for free web members.
  • Languages: the booking site and the campaign page are available in Japanese, English, Korean and Traditional Chinese.

The livestream

The sponsored stream, titled 【#AVISで叶えよう】レンタカーでどこ行く?最高のドライブ旅ルート (roughly “Where would you go by rental car? The best road trip routes”), was announced as an introduction to AVIS’s services and member perks, the differences between Japanese and overseas traffic rules, and recommended driving routes around Japan. It was streamed in Japanese. The campaign page itself suggests that viewers who do not speak Japanese turn on YouTube’s auto-translated subtitles from the gear icon, which is the same method we describe in our guide to watching Japanese streams with translation.

For viewers outside Japan, the start time of 21:00 JST on November 3 was 12:00 UTC, 7:00 a.m. in New York and 4:00 a.m. in Los Angeles. The archive remains on Kanae’s channel.

How the 40% discount works

The campaign is booked through a dedicated plan on the AVIS Rent a Car Japan website. The prices shown on the campaign page are web-member prices, and membership is free. The page lists ten car classes with campaign and regular prices side by side. A few examples:

  • Kei car (JSKN, 4 seats): ¥3,630 for up to 6 hours, against a regular ¥6,050. A 24-hour rental is ¥4,488 instead of ¥7,480.
  • Compact (JS, 5 seats): ¥5,148 for 24 hours instead of ¥8,580.
  • Compact SUV (SUV1, 5 seats): ¥6,600 for 24 hours instead of ¥11,000.
  • Wagon (WA, 7 to 8 seats): ¥12,606 for 24 hours instead of ¥21,010.

The full 40% applies at the locations listed on the campaign page. AVIS says rentals from its other locations are discounted by 30%, and that the rate can vary by store. The campaign cannot be combined with other offers, cars must be returned with a full tank, and a booking is treated as cancelled if the customer has not made contact within one hour of the reserved pick-up time. Prepayment is possible for rentals within six months of the booking date.

Note that the booking deadline of December 3, 23:59 JST is 9:59 a.m. on December 3 in New York, so overseas fans should not leave it to the evening of the 3rd in their own time zone. The trip itself can be as late as June 30, 2027.

Where the full discount applies

The 40% locations are mostly airports and major stations, which suits visitors flying in:

  • Hokkaido: New Chitose Airport.
  • Tokyo area: Narita Airport and Haneda Airport.
  • Aichi: Chubu International Airport.
  • Osaka: Kansai Airport Rinku Town Station, Shin-Osaka East Exit, and Osaka (Itami) Airport Hotarugaike Station.
  • Kyushu: eleven locations in Fukuoka Prefecture, including Fukuoka Airport (domestic and international terminals), Hakata Station, Tenjin Kita, Kokura Station and Kitakyushu Airport, plus station or airport locations in Saga, Nagasaki, Kumamoto, Oita, Miyazaki and Kagoshima.
  • Okinawa: Naha Airport and Nago.

Most of the list is in Kyushu and Okinawa. IDEX Auto Japan is headquartered in Fukuoka, and Kyushu has by far the densest set of participating stores.

Three road trips picked for the collaboration

The campaign page presents three two-night, three-day routes “introduced by Kanae”, each starting and ending at an airport:

  • Kyushu from Fukuoka Airport: Ukiha Inari Shrine with its row of about 90 red torii gates, the Milk Road and Daikanbo lookout on the rim of the Aso caldera, the Kusasenri grassland, Kurokawa Onsen, the Yamanami Highway, the Kokonoe “Yume” Grand Suspension Bridge (173 m high and 390 m long), Lake Kinrin in Yufuin, the Yufugawa Gorge and Umi Jigoku in Beppu.
  • Hokkaido from New Chitose Airport: Lake Shikotsu, Upopoy (the National Ainu Museum and Park), Tokkarisho Observatory and Cape Chikyu in Muroran, Muroran-style yakitori, the Hakucho Bridge, Michi-no-Eki Utonai-ko and the Chitose Salmon Aquarium.
  • Okinawa from Naha Airport: Senagajima Umikaji Terrace, the Itoman fish market, Ryukyu Glass Village, Shurijo Castle (the page notes that the rebuilt main hall opens to the public on November 23, 2026), CAVE OKINAWA, Nago Pineapple Park, Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium, Okashi Goten in Yomitan and the A&W drive-in at Makiminato.

The page also invites fans to post their own routes with the hashtag #AVISで叶えよう.

Can an overseas visitor rent a car in Japan?

This is the part fans should check before getting excited about the discount. According to AVIS Rent a Car Japan’s own guide:

  • Japan only accepts International Driving Permits issued under the 1949 Geneva Convention. IDPs based on the 1968 Vienna Convention or the 1943 Washington Convention are not valid, and documents sold by private “international driver” associations are refused.
  • The IDP must be the original paper document. PDFs and card-type copies are not accepted. It can be used for one year from the date of entry into Japan.
  • Holders of licences from Switzerland, Germany, France, Taiwan, Belgium and Monaco use their original licence plus an official Japanese translation (from their embassy or consulate, JAF, or the ALADDIN service) instead of an IDP.
  • Visitors who pass through automated immigration gates do not get an entry stamp, so AVIS asks them to bring their boarding pass as proof of the entry date.
  • Payment is normally by credit card in the name of the person who booked.

Japan drives on the left, phone use while driving is prohibited even when stopped at lights, seat belts are required in every seat, and children under six need a child seat. All AVIS cars have an ETC unit for expressway tolls, but it needs a Japanese-issued ETC card, and card rental is offered only at some locations. These are exactly the “differences in traffic rules” the stream set out to explain.

Why this collaboration stands out

NIJISANJI collaborations with restaurant chains and shops are common (see our report on the Kura Sushi x NIJISANJI campaign). What is unusual here is the target audience. The press release describes AVIS’s multilingual booking site and support as aimed at visitors from abroad as well as domestic customers, and the campaign page is fully translated. In practice it is one of the few VTuber collaborations where the benefit is a cheaper trip rather than a product.
