What Tobariq is

Tobariq is a project rather than a long-established agency. According to Real Sound and MoguLive, it was first teased on September 9, 2026, with a teaser site, official social accounts and a “kaii diagnosis” quiz in which fans could find out which supernatural creature lives inside them and share the result. On September 24 the four first-generation members were revealed together with a project video. The concept is that clues and oddities appear in the members’ streams and content, and that following them reveals more about the four VTuber “residents” and the town of Tobariq.

The project is run jointly by MBS Innovation Drive (a Tokyo company that is the parent of Appland, part of the MBS Group since 2023, according to the audition press release) and Appland, an unlisted communications company in Setagaya. We have a separate page on Appland’s other VTuber production, Appland (.LIVE).

The first-generation members

Four members debuted. Ashiya Noi (芦屋ノイ, born March 19) is described as a challenge collector who hunts for undiscovered brilliance. Niji Guuta (二路ぐう太, born April 27) is described as a bedtime companion. Shimawatari Reigen (志摩渡レイゲン, born July 11) is a deep-voiced singer who is also a card-game fan. Touga (巳鳴トウガ, born January 19) is a drumming idol with a reptile theme. Family-name romanizations differ between outlets, so we give the Japanese names, and the dates match the numbers in each member’s official handle.

In interviews reported by Real Sound, Reigen said he wants to release original songs and hold an offline live, while Touga said he is aiming for a prince-idol image but also likes goofing around, and plans drum covers, an original album and songs with idol-style call chants. These are stated goals, not announced releases. The illustrations were credited to 悌太 for Noi, tonoshi for Guuta, KEKI for Reigen and 京一 for Touga, with video by えるいー and music by A&R.

Debut and merchandise

The debut relay took place on September 26, 2026 on each member’s own YouTube channel, in this order (JST): Reigen at 19:00, Guuta at 19:30, Touga at 20:00 and Noi at 20:30. The official store opened the same evening at 21:05 JST. Launch items were acrylic stands at ¥1,900 each in four designs, random cheki-style cards at ¥400 in eight designs, and debut voice files at ¥500 each or ¥2,000 for the full set. Whether the store ships abroad is not stated in the sources we read.

Second-generation audition

The official audition page says Tobariq is recruiting a second generation of male VTubers, with applications open from October 26. Applicants must be 18 or older (high school students cannot apply), gender is not a factor, and they must commit to ongoing activity with either two or more streams a week plus at least one planned video a week, or five or more streams a week. Applications go through a web form and require a link to a self-introduction video uploaded to YouTube as unlisted. Document screening results are given within 14 business days to those who pass, followed by several online interview rounds, and the final round may require a visit to the company’s Tokyo office.

Successful applicants sign an exclusive contract, and individual creators must stop personal-name activities after acceptance. There are no application or screening fees, applicants cover their own communication and travel costs, passing does not guarantee a debut, and the audition can be changed or cancelled without notice. Conversational English or another language is listed as welcome, not required. The page lists no closing date.

FAQ

Who runs Tobariq? MBS Innovation Drive and Appland, according to the audition page and the audition press release on PR TIMES.

Are the streams in English? The debut streams we saw were in Japanese. We did not find an English-language schedule.

Can overseas applicants apply? The FAQ on the audition page says there is no condition on where applicants live. Screening is mainly online, but the final round may require a visit to the company in Tokyo, so overseas applicants should plan for that before applying.

When does the audition close? No closing date is stated. Applications are described as accepted year-round from October 26.
