How VTuber Agency Auditions Work: hololive, NIJISANJI, VTA and Neo-Porte Compared

Last reviewed: October 25, 2026

Auditions are the main way major Japanese VTuber agencies find new talent, and several of them are open right now. This guide compares what hololive production, NIJISANJI (ANYCOLOR), the NIJISANJI VTA program and Neo-Porte say publicly about who can apply, how selection works and what overseas applicants should check first. It is a reading guide to official pages, not advice on whether to apply, and rules change often, so always confirm the details on the official audition site before you submit anything.

The short version

  • Every program we checked requires applicants to be 18 or older, except the NIJISANJI VTA program, which says minors can apply with parental consent.
  • All of them say that passing an audition does not guarantee a debut, and most say they do not answer questions about individual results.
  • Most ask that you either belong to no other agency or label, or be ready to end that contract if you pass.
  • Language and location requirements differ sharply between branches that target overseas audiences and those that run selection in Tokyo or Osaka.

The video above is hololive English’s March 2022 announcement of male VTuber auditions; it is an older recruitment video and does not describe the current round.

hololive production

hololive’s audition page is available in English, Japanese and Indonesian. It lists no specific deadline for the current round. Applicants must be at least 18, with nationality and gender stated as irrelevant, must have clear personal goals, must be able to continue for the long term, and must follow the company’s audition rules. Streaming experience, native-level Japanese plus business-level English or another language, entertainment experience such as singing or acting, and other exceptional skills are described as welcome but not required. Selection runs through a review of the application, multiple interviews and tests, and a result. The audition is free, but applicants cover their own expenses such as transport, attached documents are not returned, and the company does not accept inquiries about the process or results.

NIJISANJI EN (ANYCOLOR)

NIJISANJI EN’s English-language audition site describes regular auditions with no fixed deadline. Applicants must be 18 or older and fluent in English, must have live-streaming experience and must be committed to consistent streaming. Video editing, other languages and team-project experience are preferred. The listed process is screening, a first interview, a second interview, a test period that may include training, and a final decision. Results can take two weeks to a month, or several months for regular auditions, and the FAQ says regular-audition applicants may reapply every three months. MoguLive reported on March 6, 2026 that NIJISANJI EN’s regular auditions are open year-round. Gender and nationality are stated as no barrier.

NIJISANJI VTA

The Japanese-language NIJISANJI VTA (Virtual Talent Academy) site, operated by ANYCOLOR, is aimed at people who want to become VTubers without prior experience and who will train first. Four auditions were open when we checked: a men’s group audition, a general audition, a vocal audition, each with an application deadline of November 9, 2026, and a standing audition open until December 31, 2027. Selection is held in Tokyo or Osaka, begins with document screening and ends with a final interview in Tokyo, so applicants outside the Tokyo area can apply but must attend in person. No streaming experience is required, but it is preferred, and applicants who reapply must wait at least six months for the standing audition. The page is Japanese only and does not state any language or overseas rules, so overseas applicants should check the official site.

Neo-Porte

Neo-Porte, an agency run with Brave group, has reopened a rolling audition. According to Gamebiz, it is the first ongoing audition in about two years. Applicants must be 18 or older, able to commit for the medium to long term, and either free of another contract or willing to end it. Nationality and gender do not matter, and streaming experience, native-level Japanese, and gaming or singing strengths are preferred. The process is application, document screening, several online or in-person interviews, then acceptance and debut preparation. The agency was produced by the VTuber Shibuya Haru, the esports team Crazy Raccoon and the singers Mafumafu and Soraru.

How the programs differ

  • Language: hololive’s page has English and Indonesian versions and treats Japanese and English as welcome skills; NIJISANJI EN requires fluent English; Neo-Porte prefers native-level Japanese; NIJISANJI VTA is in Japanese only.
  • Experience: NIJISANJI EN requires streaming experience; VTA and hololive describe it as preferred or welcome.
  • Location: VTA says selection is in Tokyo or Osaka; the other pages we read do not say where interviews are held.
  • Reapplying: NIJISANJI EN allows regular-audition reapplications every three months; VTA’s standing audition requires six months.

Checklist before you apply

  • Read the whole official audition page and use only the application form linked from it.
  • Check whether you are under contract elsewhere and what you would have to end.
  • Prepare for a long timeline: some programs say results can take months.
  • Do not expect feedback; several programs say they will not give reasons.
  • Keep your own expenses in mind, since hololive’s page says applicants pay their own costs such as transport.

FAQ

Can I apply from outside Japan? hololive and NIJISANJI EN both say nationality is not a barrier, but their pages do not explain relocation or time-zone logistics. VTA requires attendance at selection in Tokyo or Osaka.

Do I need to speak Japanese? It depends on the branch. NIJISANJI EN requires fluent English, while hololive lists native-level Japanese as a plus.
