Background: from VALORANT to Overwatch
The series started in October 2024 with NIJISANJI Extreme Match / VALORANT. Trade coverage described that first edition as a community tournament in which 20 NIJISANJI livers fought “seriously”: four teams of five, each coached by a former professional player, played a round-robin of best-of-two matches before a third-place decider and a best-of-three final. Scrimmages ran October 9 to 12, 2024, and the main event followed on October 13 and 14. The team led by Lauren Iroas, with XQQ as coach, took the title after beating the Earthbarasers team 13-5 on both Lotus and Haven in the final, according to esports.net.
The first edition was introduced on an announcement-and-explanation stream by Ex Albio, who organized the tournament and played for the MeshTek team; that stream is embedded below. The second edition keeps the “livers take it seriously” theme but moves to Blizzard’s team shooter Overwatch.
Teams and players
Fan-run listings (Follow Board and Karan Room) give the following line-ups. The official announcement does not spell the rosters out in text, so check the team announcement on the official channels before relying on them.
- Team 01 (coach: Rrmy): Mikogami Kotone, Otora, Kazama Kanato, Hoshimichi Shou and Yuhi Riri
- Team 02 (coach: TQQ): Gentsuki Toshirou, Ibrahim, Kuzuha, Uushiumi Ichigo and Umiimo Yotsuha
- Team 03 (coach: hoshimi): Iba Rai, Kano, Tsukahara Daichi, Shiina Yuika and Rei7
- Team 04 (coach: Mimoza): Honma Himawari, Koyanagi Rou, Morinaka Kaya, Igarashi Rika and Itsuki Sakyo
4Gamer’s report on the announcement names about 20 participants including Otora, Mikogami Kotone, Ibrahim and Kuzuha, which matches those lists. Team names given by the fan guide include “Wan Ope”, “Hacks Eye 1/4”, “D4P4” and “Chiru Botan”.
Format and rules
According to the Karan Room guide, the round-robin is best-of-two, with ranking by maps won and tie-breakers based on head-to-head results and then a one-map push match. Placement matches and the final are best-of-three. The listed map pool covers Control, Hybrid, Push, Flashpoint and Escort modes, and the heroes Doomfist and Widowmaker are banned. Coaches may not give instructions by voice or text during a match, although talking between rounds is allowed. The same guide lists prizes of Overwatch-themed goods and 30,000 Overwatch coins. These details come from a fan-run guide and are not confirmed on an official page we could open.
Scrimmage results so far
The guide records day-one scrimmages on October 23: Team 01 beat Team 02 and Team 03, while Team 04 beat Team 03 and Team 02. Scrimmages are played on the participants’ own channels, so results depend on who streamed which match, and they are practice rather than standings.
How to watch from abroad
The main broadcast is on the official NIJISANJI YouTube channel, which is free to watch worldwide. If the 15:00 JST start time holds, that is 06:00 UTC on October 25. In the UK that is 06:00 GMT, because clocks go back that morning, and in Central Europe it is 07:00. In the US it is 02:00 EDT or 23:00 PDT on October 24, while US daylight saving time is still in effect. Individual livers also stream their own perspectives, so viewers can follow a favorite player on their personal channel. The broadcast is expected to be in Japanese.
