Aogiri High School reviews its operations and cancels a December music festival

On October 15, 2026, the Japanese VTuber group Aogiri High School (あおぎり高校) announced that it will comprehensively review how it runs livestreams, produces content and supports its members. As part of the announcement, the group cancelled the music-festival portion of its planned Aogiri High School Entrance Festival 2026!, which had been set for late December 2026.

At a glance

  • Announced: October 15, 2026, on the group’s official X account.
  • Cancelled: the music-festival portion of the Entrance Festival 2026!, planned for late December 2026. The group said it could not responsibly deliver a performance that meets audience expectations under current circumstances.
  • Tickets: none had gone on sale and registration had not opened, so fans do not need to take any action.
  • Continuing: group activities and collaborations under the Aogiri High School name.
  • Official YouTube channel: uploads are to resume gradually in October at a reduced volume, focused on projects with several members.

What prompted the review

According to Toy People’s report, the announcement followed several operational problems. A livestream event planned for September was postponed. On October 4, the official X account accidentally reposted an external post. A solo concert by member Chiyoura Chiyomi was also postponed, reportedly causing significant losses. In addition, member Kurikoma Komaru suspended her activities over contract-related issues, with no return date given. In September, the group had already paused updates and video releases on its official YouTube channel during a reorganization.

What is changing

  • Event production: responsibilities for each project’s managers and staff are defined, progress is checked at every preparation stage, and problems go straight to the person in charge.
  • Official accounts: the group is reviewing device use, account permissions and checks before posting.
  • Content policy: the group says it will keep valuing creative freedom while following laws and platform rules, and will consider rights, safety and privacy.
  • Member channels: more emphasis and resources will go to individual members’ channels, with staff support previously used for the official channel redirected to them.

Background

Aogiri High School is a VTuber group built around a school concept, with the motto “If it’s interesting, anything goes!” Fan-wiki records place its start on October 27, 2018, when two members began as the “Aogiri High School Game Club” under a different company; in January 2023 the Brave Group announced that the group would move to the Tokyo-based company viviON, with the transfer effective April 1, 2023, as Famitsu reported. viviON’s own announcement in January 2025 said the group had 15 affiliated VTubers as of December 2024 and was joining the Weiss Schwarz and Re:Birth for you card games, and MoguLive reported that its first terrestrial TV show was due to start on TOKYO MX on October 3, 2025.

Against that backdrop, the October 2026 announcement stands out. Toy People notes that many fans link the recent troubles to the departure of the group’s long-time producer, known as the “Principal,” who stepped down on May 26, 2026 after about eight years; that connection is fan speculation and not something the group has stated.

What fans should do

  • No ticket or registration action is needed for the cancelled festival, since neither had opened.
  • Follow the official X account for the resumption of YouTube uploads, which the group says will be gradual and reduced in volume.
  • Follow individual members’ channels, which the group says will receive more resources.

The group has not announced a replacement event or a date for member Kurikoma Komaru’s return, so expect further updates through official channels.

What we don’t know yet

  • The exact date and venue of the cancelled December event.
  • Whether a replacement event will be held.
  • When Kurikoma Komaru, or the postponed concert and event, will return.

Overseas fans can follow the group’s official X account and the individual members’ channels for updates. If you are new to the scene, our VTubers 101 beginner’s guide explains how groups, agencies and individual channels fit together.
