Critical Role and hololive Announce “Shattered Legends,” a Daggerheart Actual Play Premiering in November
Critical Role, the American tabletop role-playing group behind *The Legend of Vox Machina*, and hololive production are teaming up for a new actual-play series. *Shattered Legends* pairs Critical Role’s Matthew Mercer as game master with four hololive English-branch talents and Marisha Ray, and it is scheduled to premiere in mid-November 2026. The collaboration was announced on October 12 and 13, 2026 (U.S. and Japan dates respectively).
What was announced
- Format: an actual-play series, in which players role-play a tabletop campaign live, played with *Daggerheart*, the tabletop RPG published by Critical Role’s publishing arm, Darrington Press. It is run as a mini web series that follows the campaign from beginning to end, per MoguraVR.
- Game master: Matthew Mercer, a Critical Role co-founder.
- Players: Marisha Ray of Critical Role, and four hololive talents: Nerissa Ravencroft, Mori Calliope, Shiori Novella and Gigi Murin. Wargamer lists characters for four of them: Sil Faell (Nerissa), Kaz Oogood (Calliope), March Rosemyne (Shiori) and Giryn (Gigi); Marisha Ray’s role was not specified.
- Setting: Exandria, the world of Critical Role’s campaigns. Wargamer calls the series a “new, canon mini-series,” and MoguraVR says the VTubers’ part is incorporated into Exandria’s canon.
- Premiere: mid-November 2026. Episode count and release schedule were not stated.
- Where to watch: the YouTube channels of Critical Role, hololive English and Nerissa Ravencroft, and Beacon, Critical Role’s streaming service. MoguraVR says every episode on YouTube has Japanese subtitles.
- Extras: an “Episode 0” covering character creation and backgrounds, and post-episode cooldown talks, available through Beacon and Nerissa Ravencroft’s YouTube membership, per MoguraVR.
- Sponsor and tour: Ultra PRO is the sponsor, and promotional appearances in North America, Europe and Asia are planned, with merchandise details to come, MoguraVR reports.
Why it matters
The series places hololive’s talents inside an existing franchise with a canon setting, rather than a one-off crossover, and it is distributed through both sides’ own channels as well as Beacon.
Japanese subtitles on every YouTube episode, together with the English-language format, are meant to make the series accessible to viewers of both communities, though how it will be received is not yet known.
What to watch next
- The exact premiere date and the number of episodes.
- Whether the story is as tightly connected to the main Critical Role canon as the announcement suggests.
